Matt and I just experienced a small miracle/tender mercy. I went visiting teaching tonight(yay me!) and Matt has really been into researching equipment for backpacking, so he wanted to go to REI(the one up on 3300 East) tonight right after I went VT. So I was supposed to be done with my appointment at 7:30-which has been the usual time I got done-and then pick him and Ammon up right after. Well, I have a new companion, and because I am also getting to know the lady we visit better, conversation came more easily, and we had a lot in common. 7:30 came and went and Matt was sending me texts and calling me, and I was trying to ignore them because I didn't want to be rude by texting or answering calls in the middle of the visit. I finally looked at my phone at 7:48 and Matt sent me a text that they were waiting outside the condo for me to pick them up, so I tried to end as quickly and nicely and possible, dropped my companion home and picked Matt up. Poor Matt, he's having to get used to me staying and talking like my mom(and probably most moms) used to do.
ANYWAY, back to the point of my post. We got on the road to REI and it was snowing harder and dark, and the road we were on made me nervous because there weren't hardly any street lights. Matt told me to put on the 4-wheel drive, so I did, and when we turned it made a funny sound and was kind of hard to turn. It continued to act abnormally, so I turned off the 4-wheel drive, but the noise continued so we pulled over for Matt to check the tire pressure. Guess what it was at? Normally, it should be at 30-35 PSI. It was at 10 PSI!!!! Fortunately, we were just around the corner from REI so we made it and parked there. We were meeting Brian and Malena there so we went in the store since it was closing soon and then Brian and Matt changed the tire when we came out. Ammon was growing impatient, naturally, so I went to the conveniently located Wendy's across the parking lot to get him some oranges and milk(EVERYTIME I don't pack absolutely anything and everything I could possibly need, I end up needing it). Luckily, since the car was too low for our jack to work, they were able to use Brian's.
On the way home, I felt so grateful that the tire went flat when we were on our way to meet Brian(for those of you who don't know, he owns one of the Master Mufflers), the storm lifted while they were changing the tire, and we were all safe and sound. A small miracle, but I don't know what I would have done if I was alone and the tire went flat. And I'm grateful that Brian was there because we had no idea how to get the spare tire down and our jack didn't work. Miracles happen everyday and the Lord takes care of His children!
"Now ye may suppose that this is a foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise." ~Alma 37:6

Wonderful Week
This week has been great. Ammon and I have been outside to play everyday and we were able to do some fun things as well. Here is a filmstrip of this week's activities(hooray for finally figuring out how to upload pictures in the order they occured...:
Ammon's awesome hair do.
As I have mentioned before, he loves pinecones. He tries to collect as many as possible, so Matt and I tried teaching him how to make a pouch out of his shirt to hold more pinecones. I worked for about 3 seconds.
I love this picture!
The big cheese
Thursday morning I finally went to mom's club, and it was the perfect day to go! We went to the park and Ammon had a grand time! He climbed on the playground for his first time and loved going down the slide. He got a little nervous if he wandered for a bit and then couldn't find me, but other than that, he was happy as a clam(I'm really liking similes these days...).

Last night Matt and I doubled with my sister Celeste and her date Trevor who knew Matt from high school. We went to The Pizza Factory and bowled at Fat Cats. I'm a terrible bowler, but at least I got better than a 30 this time!

This morning, Ammon had a really bad diaper that went up his back. He had quite a few mandarin oranges and so his diaper must have been really acidic because he got hives all over his back and he was itching and scratching like crazy! Poor little guy. Even after benadryl they were spreading, but after two baths, some hydrocordisone ointment, and time, it finally cleared up and he was much more comfortable.
This afternoon we took a little snack picnic outside. Above you can see Ammon and his beloved fruit snacks. Below you can see how windy and bright! We didn't stay outside for too long, but we stayed long enough to enjoy ourselves! Tonight, we are going to make hot dogs, and settle down to watch That Darn Cat(the new version) and go to bed early! Yay!

My little stud
I have been loving this weather! All except for the wind of course, but in the midst of all of the sunshine, I am so happy. Ammon is too. Everytime we go outside, even to go to the car, he wants to walk around. He LOVES to be outside, and I am having so much fun watching him explore and learn how to keep his balance on the grass.
If you look at his hands, you'll see his new favorite toy outside: pinecones. Once he finds them, he puts as many in each of his hands as he can manage. In the picture, it looks like he's holding two, but he's holding a tiny one too, making three.
The other day, I was working on the computer and Ammon, as usual, was trying to type along with me. So I got out the old laptop for him to play with. The next time I looked at him I found this. And he was grinning widely. Such a funny little goon.

Ammon outside in the snow at my mom's house. One of the first days I took him outside to play. He had a great time! The picture below shows him after he lost his balance. He didn't quite know what to make of the snow.
Ammon got his hair cut tonight! My friend Joanne from my ward came over to cut his hair. He sat on my lap and ate some crackers and fruit snacks while she cut. I have to brag: Joanne said that he was one of the best baby she's ever cut hair for because he sat so still. That made me happy. Ammon really is a good little guy, and is really good at sitting still for quite a while, which is quite shocking considering the parents he comes from. I still can't sit still! These pictures aren't terrific, I'm no photographer, but I think his hair looks great. Thanks Joanne! You did a wonderful job!

2 years!
Last Friday-March 13, 2009-Matt and I celebrated 2 years of marriage. For Christmas Dave and Sue gave us a gift certificate to the Johnson Mill in Midway, and 1 night of babysitting. Friday morning we spend the morning cleaning, a little grocery shopping for Ammon, and getting ready. After lunch we took Ammon over to Grandma Sue's. Matt gave him a blessing before we left because we have never left him over night, and he's never been babysat for longer than a few hours, and even that has been rare. I'm discovering I'm quite like my mom that way. I have a hard time leaving him. But, Ammon does love being at his Grandma's house, so he handled our goodbye pretty well. Matt and I went to see Race to Witch Mountain and it was good, clean fun. We then drove the hour up to Midway to check into Johnson Mill. I worried much of the way up there about Ammon, and didn't know if I would be able to enjoy myself as much, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was so quiet and peaceful up there. They had a room full of 500 videos that we could choose from, AND, it was complimentary! I love movies! We enjoyed a nice, and very filling, dinner, and then relaxed the rest of the evening. We were so tired, we went to sleep at 10:30!!!! I woke up the next morning and commented that it was the first night we had ever been away from Ammon. I was so grateful that we had an opportunity to get a way, just for a night.
The weather was perfect, just like it was on our wedding day 2 years ago- sunny, and the perfect temperature. We were served a delightful breakfast with the sun pouring through the windows, and we packed up to go home. On the way, we stopped at the Homestead to see the crater. Last year, Matt certified for scuba in the crater and he wanted to show me. That was fun, and scary- for me because I had bridges or docks that move up and down in the water, especially when I'm wearing normal clothes and I don't want to get wet.
I'm so grateful that we were able to go and celebrate together and feel like we were on our honeymoon again, I had a great time, and I was so happy to see Ammon again. Since then, he's pretty paranoid about me leaving him. Poor little guy. Thanks again Dave and Sue for the wonderful gift!

Bailee's Birthday Party
Note: There are several posts from today, if you have time...check them out!
Emergency Room visit:
This past weekend was quite the experience. Thursday afternoon I started feeling nauseous. It was a little better when I sat down, or laid down. It got worse as the evening wore on, and soon I had the nasty stomach flu. That is seriously the worst kind of sickness for me that I have experienced. I will admit that I whine and complain too much no matter what I have, but feeling like I'm going to gag constantly is just the worst. Anyway, don't want to make anyone sick by just reading this. Needless to say, I was going to the bathroom for one reason or another a lot and I was miserable! Matt was so great to keep Ammon occupied and fed and put to bed while I was on the floor or the bed, or whatnot. At 10:30 Matt called my dad and asked him to come over and give me a blessing. So he dropped everything and came over. I think I had a fever, because I had the chills and I piled blanket on the bed, put a hoodie on, and had the heating pad on my stomach and was still shivering until I fell asleep around 11. At 12:30 I woke up suddenly in a sweat and a panic. I had to get to the bathroom but I couldn't move because I was so hot and dizzy. I tried calling to Matt for help, and I thought that I had managed to get the words "help!" and "hot!" out, but apparently not. Matt flew out of the bed and helped me up to get me to the bathroom(good thing I had a bowl by the bed)-sorry if this is too much information! and I made it as far as the other side of the bed and collapsed. Poor Matt was terrified. He said that heat was radiating from me so he managed to pull the hoodie and shirt off my sweatie body and turned the fan on in front of me. He says that when I passed out, my arms stiffened in front of me and I started to shake. From my point of view, it felt like I just kept going in and out of conciousness. After I woke up, I couldn't move because it made my stomach turn and made me dizzy, and that lasted probably about 30-40 minutes I think. Matt called my mom, his mom and the hospital and we decided I should go because I couldn't drink anything and Sue thought I was dehydrated. Dave and Dan came over for Dave to stay here with Ammon, and Dan came to give Matt moral support and to help carry me if needed(I really need to lose some weight I guess, lol.) So they carried me down the stairs and to the car and we drove to the hospital.
They took some blood tests and an ekg in case the cause of my passing out was due to an irregular heart beat, and then did some blood pressure tests. Taking blood pressue when lying flat, then when sitting, then when standing, gives them an idea how dehydrated a person is. When I got to the standing test, I didn't even last long enough for the test to finish. The nurse said "well you failed that test miserably". Based on that they hooked me up to an IV and gave me fluids and some nausea medicine. It turns out that's all I needed, because I felt much better after that. We got home around 5 am and went to sleep. I am so grateful for our family who was so willing to help out. My dad, Dan, Dave, and Janelle and Sue who helped out with Ammon the next day. Matt ended up staying home from work to take care of Ammon so I could get some sleep, and I am so glad he did.
Saturday:
Saturday morning, my sister went through the temple, and it was a great experience for me. Matt and I were able to go, although there was much opposition: I had been sick, Celeste just had her wisdom teeth out and she was going to take care of Ammon, my dad got sick the night before, and Daniel was sick, so we were nervous to take Ammon over there, but decided that we needed and wanted to be there for Sharon. We slept in a little but made it to my parents to pick my weak, and still recovering dad up to go to the temple. When we were about halfway there, my dad realized he didn't have his wallet with him, so we turned back to get it. By the time we got to the temple, got dressed and got to the chapel, the last of the group was just leaving. We barely made the session! I have never experienced so much opposition trying to get to the temple before, but I know we had angels watching over us as we drove through the unusually thick traffic at 9 am on a Saturday morning. Sharon was beautiful and it was wonderful.

My Best Friend's Wedding
Friday, February 27 Matt's best friend Brian got married. We were so happy for them, and excited that we have another married couple to hang out with. Their reception was lots of fun. My sisters Sharon and Celeste came over to take care of Ammon so Matt and I could go and dance and help out. We had a great time and I'm glad we were able to go. The gym was transformed and it was all beautiful. Malena was stunning in her custom made chinese dress, and Brian looked dashing in his brown tux. Congratulations Brian and Malena!

Catch up
Well, Ammon has really enjoyed his playdough. He especially loves it when I roll it up into lots of balls for him to put in the bowls. At first he didn't know what he was supposed to do with it, but he's learning, and I got some cute pictures and a video.

Grandma Sue has a little iron and ironing board from when Bailee was little(I don't know if it's Bailee's or if Sue just got it for the grandkids...) Ammon found it the other day that we were over there and he had fun with it. I keep telling Matt that Ammon needs to spend more time with him doing man things, because Ammon is starting to copy what he sees, and right now he sees mom doing makeup (he's gotten hold of some q-tips and started wiping his face with them...), cooking, cleaning; although, I'm happy that Ammon is interested in watching me cook and clean, I hope it sticks. I am determined to make sure our kids know how to cook and clean the house. Anyway, Ammon has been a delight. There have been frustrations with some picky eating, but that's normal I guess.
Ammon is doing really really well with communication. If he asks 'please' for something and it's given to him, he will sign "thank you". The first time was actually during primary when he tried to take a little boy's scripture case, so the boy gave him a scripture pencil. As Ammon walked away, he said "thank you". What a proud mommy moment!
Words Ammon is saying:
mom, dad, up, yeah, no, bath, light, and hi. He makes sounds for dogs, ducks(sometimes), birds, snake, fish, monkey. He will wave hi and bye. He still loves books, and he is getting more independent. Sometimes lately, he won't eat anything unless he can feed himself, and he is getting better.

I can't wait!!!!
I can't wait for Spring! It is my favorite season. After the dull, dreary, and gray months of January and February I am so looking forward to cool sunny mornings and new, beautiful growth. I love Spring, not just because I think it's the perfect temperature, but because it symbolizes a new beginning, a rebirth, etc. I am so grateful for the countless opportunities that Christ offers us to begin a new: a new day, a new week, a new year, etc. I love the spring flowers that start to grow. I forget every year, but by the end of February, without fail, I remember that the reason I've been kind of down, without energy, and just plain ornery much of the time is because I'm ready for a change! So here's to spring!
