Once upon a time I went grocery shopping. I was very pleased with myself because I planned out healthy meals, got lots of yummy healthy food, and then came the time to load it into the car. Ammon was being such a good boy even though we spent longer than usual in the store and was as happy as could be. I put him in his carseat, threw the keys over onto the front seat and shut Ammon's door........
Guess what?
The doors were locked!
My keys were on the front seat, all the car doors were closed and locked and Ammon was inside the car!!!! I almost started to cry! The Lord really does watch out for me, because if He didn't, I think I would be dead right now. I am usually so careful about keeping my keys with me and making sure I NEVER did this! I must have been distracted with the groceries....Stupid..........
Anyway, luckily, I still had my cell phone with me so I called Matt, who's work, very mercifully is like 3 minutes away from Macey's, and he was able to borrow a car and come to rescue us. I am SO grateful that we weren't anywhere farther away. I am also grateful that it didn't even phase Ammon. He just sat in his seat smiling at me like he does when I fill the car up with gas.
I PROMISED MYSELF RIGHT AFTER THAT THAT I WOULD ALWAYS KEEP MY KEYS WITH ME AND USE MY BRAIN!!!

Ahh..Sundays....
I love Sundays. Especially this one. I filled in today for junior primary so I ended up doing both. I had so much in both junior and senior primaries! During senior primary, I looked up at the clock for the first time and realized it was already time to be done! I had to ask one of the leaders if it was really time. Same with junior. I had a lot of fun and was able to be more fun, exciting, and more myself which I have been struggling to do in front of everyone since I got this calling. I wasn't stressed out or nervous like I usually am, and I think the kids had a good time. It also REALLY helped that my wonderful sister Sharon came to take care of Ammon during both primaries and it was wonderful to not have to worry about him or be distracted and forget the words to the songs because he's crying in the halls(I'm sorry to everyone who witnessed that last week). All in all, I felt the spirit and that it was a great success. Hooray!!!
After church we headed to my parents' for dinner and that was a lot of fun too. Ammon is doing great with his baby signs and they all loved watching him toddle around and say "please" everytime he thought of, or saw the phone.
Oh! Crazy story....Ammon usually is pretty careful when he's at the top of stairs and knows to go down them backwards, but for some reason, he just started charging towards the stairs and didn't slow down. I got up to move towards him, and as he steps over them edge, somehow I was able to switch the measuring cups I had in my right to my left hand barely in time to catch Ammon by the fingers before falling down my mom's wood staircase. It truly was a miracle. I don't know how I moved fast enough, but I am so grateful that I did. It would have been a nasty fall.
Of course we sisters enjoyed some crazy dance time to Barry Manilow(sp?) in the living room, and Rachel graced us with a new dance costume she created. (Sorry, Rachel, I just couldn't leave it out, at least there are no pictures) I know, we are crazy. But we have a lot of fun, and Ammon absolutely loved watching people dance and dancing himself. I love spending time with family and laughing.

I year
It's amazing how quickly Ammon can learn new things in such a short period of time. I continue to be amazed. We started doing a few baby signs with Ammon around 6 mos. Out of the blue Friday night Ammon decided to use them to communicate. He will say please, all done, eat, and sometimes he will use the sign for "change" when we ask him if he needs his diaper changed. He also is beginning to talk a little bit, he's never been really interested in it. The most obvious word is "yeah" or "yes" when we ask him questions. He kind of nods his entire body as well when his answer is yes.
He has also really taken off with walking. He's walking a lot around the room and has gotten really steady! He's growing so fast, I'm just trying to keep up. Babies really are miracles.
While I'm thinking of it, Ammon's allergist called yesterday and I found out that we'll need to wait a year before trying any eggs at all, same with the nuts. I'm grateful for people like Shauna that unfortunately has to go through the same thing, but who has lots of tips and advice to share about egg-less cooking. Thank you to all those who have offered so much love and support.

January So Far
Time sure does go by so fast! We now have a 1 yr old! We had a little family birthday party for him the Saturday before his real birthday(which was January 3, 2008). We were able to fit everyone the came in our little apartment! Woohoo! I attempted making lego cakes and realized that it was much more work than I EVER want to do again. Lucky for me, my sisters Sharon and Celeste saved my life by coming over early and wrapping Ammon's presents and helping me frost the cakes. I would have been halfway through by the time people showed up if not for them. So thank you!
The party was fun, and Ammon sure was spoiled. He loves all of his gifts and plays with them all the time. I am very grateful to everyone that took the time to come and celebrate with us. Thank you! At first, he wouldn't eat his cake, he wanted me to spoon feed him, but after he got used to the new stuff on his tray, he picked it up and loved it. And, of course, broke out in hives....More to come about that.
The cake was so crumbly even though I froze overnight, and it didn't come out of the pan cleanly at all. I must not have used enough flour and pam. Oh well. It tasted fine I guess. If you squint your eyes, they actually look kind of like legos!
For Christmas, my parents gave Ammon a Thomas the Train book. I was gone one day for a couple of hours and while Matt was in charge of Ammon, he built him a train! I never would have thought of doing something like this. This is one reason dad's are so great! Ammon loved it, and loved being pushed around pressing the fun buttons.
Ammon is officially into everything he can manage to get into. I bought cupboard locks, but they don't work with our cupboards, so I just have to keep telling him no, try to redirect him and move him somewhere else. He can open drawers and even cupboards that have magnets keeping them shut. He especially likes the movie drawers. It can be frustrating telling him those aren't his toys over and over, but I really like this stage. He's fun to play with, he's starting to cuddle more, and he's just so happy almost all of the time.
Tuesday we took Ammon to the allergist. We discovered that he allergic to eggs(birthday cake.....), peanuts, and tree nuts. No wheat, woohoo! I'm very grateful he grew out of that. Anyway, the pictures below of the skin test they did. The top left hive is the control prick. And below that is the egg prick. I think the bottom right was the negative prick. They also tested, like I said, peanuts and mixed nuts, cat and dog, and wheat. I was really nervous or this appointment, first, because I was dreading to find out what he was allergic to, and second, because I get nervous around needles, and scary stuff like that. I'm so glad that Matt was there to help Ammon and me be brave, ha ha. Ammon did amazingly well. He didn't even cry when they were pricking his back until they were almost done, and it wasn't very much at that. Then they had to take some blood, and he did great with that as well. He was very happy most of the time and I'm so glad I remembered to bring snacks because we were there for 2 1/2 hours.
His reactions aren't very severe(just hives so far) but the allergist still prescribed an epipen. She said it's better to overtreat than undertreat, and be prepared if he does have a more severe reaction. Depending on the blood test results, we may be able to give Ammon baked foods with eggs, such as muffins, rolls, etc. For like 6 months and then test more, but definitely no french toast, scrambled eggs, stuff like that. She also explained that often with children if they just don't eat something for a long time that they're allergic to, their body forgets it's allergic and has grown out of it. So I don't want to set myself up to be disappointed, but I guess we'll see in a year if anything has changed.
That was kind of an emotional day for me, but it is also nice to know exactly what he's allergic to from a test. So we're introducing our families to the epipen and teaching them how not to stab themselves. Fun stuff!
